In a recent incident, a chartered flight crashed in Afghanistan, stirring initial reports of it being an Indian carrier. However, the Indian government has clarified that the aircraft involved was not of Indian origin but a Moroccan-registered air ambulance. The tragic incident unfolded as the plane, en route from Thailand to Moscow, made a refuelling stop at Bihar’s Gaya airport.
Contrary to speculations, the civil aviation ministry emphasized that the small aircraft did not belong to any Indian carrier and was, in fact, registered in Morocco. The aircraft, on a medical evacuation mission, had taken off from Thailand’s Utapao airport, transporting a bedridden Russian patient from Pattaya to Moscow.
According to Russian aviation authorities, the plane disappeared from radar screens while flying over a remote, mountainous area in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province. The pilot reported fuel shortage and attempted to land in Tajikistan, but both engines malfunctioned, leading to the tragic crash.
The Taliban-run Afghan aviation ministry stated that the Russian plane deviated from its planned route, likely due to technical issues, as it was not scheduled to fly over Afghanistan. In response, Russia’s Investigative Committee has initiated a criminal case to investigate whether safety protocols were followed.
This unfortunate event underscores the importance of adhering to safety measures in aviation. Stay tuned for further updates on this Moroccan-registered air ambulance crash in Afghanistan.
